Regulatory Standards Bill / Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions - Regulatory Standards Bill

Why is it important to submit a response?

Your submission helps Parliament understand what people across Aotearoa think about the bill. Community voices can influence the final shape of the law, ensuring it works fairly and effectively for everyone.

Who can make a submission?

Anyone can submit feedback — individuals, whānau, community groups, businesses, iwi, and organizations. Your experience and perspectives matter.

Can tamariki make a submission?

Yes, absolutely! Tamariki can make a submission with your guidance, as long as there is an email address they can use for contact purposes.

What is the deadline for submissions?

Our community submission builder closes at 1pm on Thursday, 19th June. This earlier deadline allows the Hapai team to manually process, and hand deliver all submissions to Parliament in time. Please ensure you submit by this date. Note: The official Parliament deadline is 1pm Monday 23rd June if you wish to submit via the Parliament website.

How will my submission be submitted?

Our team will hand deliver printed versions of all submissions received through this builder directly to Parliament. This way, your voice is physically present where decisions are made.

Can I save my submission and finish later?

Currently, this tool does not support saving drafts. We recommend setting aside time to complete your submission in one session.

Is my submission confidential?

All submissions become public documents once received by the Parliamentary committee, unless you specifically request confidentiality. Your personal details will be treated according to official privacy guidelines.

Can I submit more than once?

You can submit multiple times, but one well-considered submission is more effective.

What happens after I submit?

Your submission will be reviewed by the Finance and Expenditure Committee. They will consider all feedback before making recommendations to Parliament.

I already submitted on this Bill – do I need to do a second submission?

Yes! The first round of submissions for the Regulatory Standards Bill was for the consultation document. Those submissions went to the Ministry of Regulation for their review. This time, submissions are going to the Select Committee who are required to read and consider all public submissions.

Why haven’t I received a confirmation from Parliament after using the Submission Builder?

You will not receive an immediate confirmation from Parliament that they have received your submission as we are printing and hand-delivering all submissions to Parliament on your behalf.

Rest assured, we’ve received your submission, and your voice will be included in the delivery by 1pm, Monday 23rd June.

What is the Regulatory Standards Bill?

The Regulatory Standards Bill is a proposed law that would change the way future laws are made in Aotearoa. It talks about making laws that are clear, fair, and efficient. But in reality, it protects profit and property — not people. See our explainer for more information.
