
Leitu Tufuga is of Samoan (villages of Vailoa – District of Aleipata, Apia & Asau in Savai’i) and Tongan decent (village of Houma, Tongatapu). She is passionate about growing capacity of people so that families and communities can lead change, and contribute to effective policies that can improve their health and wellbeing.
Leitu is an innovative and creative leader. She believes in weaving and supporting stories from people who can paint the picture about the problem and provide the solutions too. She has contributed to advocating for better health & social outcomes. She brings with her experience from libraries, local government, and community and youth development, NGO sector and in public health.
Leitu public health experience in Alcohol harm, obesengentic environments, Tobacco control, public campaigns, contributing skills and advocacy to achieve a Smokefree Aotearoa by 2025. Leitu is well connected to her communities locally and nationally. She currently is the National Secretary for P.A.C.I.F.I.C.A Inc. National executive –this is her 2nd term of service.
“Ole ala ile pule ole tautua" -The path to leadership is through service a well-known Samoan proverb. Before we lead, we need to serve our people. It is through the many learnings we can gain new insights, sharpen our skills before we take the lead for our communities and families.
