Hāpai Te Hauora was pleased to present at the inaugural tobacco control mini-symposium was held on the 26th October 2016 at the University of Otago, Wellington. General Manager Zoe Martin-Hawke (pictured) said, "It was a great opportunity to provide the sector with an update on the new tobacco control advocacy service."

The mini-symposium was hosted by ASPIRE2025 and NIHI with the view to test support for resurrecting the wider Smokefree Conference that used to run in New Zealand.

Leading smokefree researchers from ASPIRE2025 and the University of Auckland provided a number of updates on their latest research across all areas of tobacco control. There was also an update from the Health Promotion Agency on its tobacco control research. Hāpai Te Hauora Senior Advisors Stephanie Erick and Edward Cowley were also able to attend the highly valuable symposium.

In the afternoon, all Hāpai Te Hauora attendees were able to participate in the final Smokefree Coalition AGM held during the Symposium lunch hour. We spoke of our appreciation for the preceding Executive Director Prudence Stone, Chairperson Jan Pearson as well as the Board and members.
